How does Qonto billing work?

  • Updated

Qonto makes subscription management simple and transparent. Your subscription fees are charged directly from your account balance, with flexible payment options to suit your needs.

You can choose monthly billing for pay-as-you-go flexibility, or annual billing to pay upfront for the full year and potentially save on costs. To learn how to change your plan or billing frequency, check out this guide.

☝️ Important: Always maintain an account balance higher than your upcoming subscription fees, whether you're billed monthly or annually. For details on your subscription costs, see this article.

When will I be charged for my subscription?

Your first payment is due at the end of your 30-day trial period (except for Incorporating Companies, who pay upon registration).

The billing schedule depends on your chosen payment frequency:

  • Monthly billing: Your first charge is prorated based on the remaining days in the month after registration. After that, you're billed on the 1st of each month for the full monthly fee. Any extra cards, team members, or off-subscription operations are charged on the 1st of each month or as they occur.
  • Annual billing: Your first charge covers the remaining days in the current month plus 11 additional months (a full year total). After that, you're billed annually on your subscription anniversary. Extra cards, team members, and off-subscription operations are still charged monthly on the 1st or as they occur.

What happens if my account balance is insufficient?

Qonto does not apply penalty fees for overdue payments, unlike traditional banks.

If your account lacks sufficient funds, you'll receive a "payment failure" notification and be asked to top up your account so the payment can be processed.

After a payment failure, once you top up your account during the month, three scenarios are possible:

  • Sufficient funds to cover all fees: Qonto charges your account for the full outstanding amount. Example: If you owe €169 and top up €180, we'll charge €169, leaving you with an €11 balance.
  • Insufficient funds to cover all fees: Your charges remain pending until the next billing cycle. To prevent accumulating pending charges, Qonto will attempt to collect all or part of fees that are more than one month old on the 1st of each month.

💡 If you use top-up via card as your payment method, the account holder can delete this payment method by going to Settings > Billing and invoices > Payment methods.

When will I receive my invoice?

You'll receive monthly invoices that show all Qonto fees charged during each calendar month (from the 1st to the last day).

Each monthly invoice becomes available in your Qonto application on the 1st day of the following month. For example, your July invoice will be available on August 1st.

Each fee appears on the invoice corresponding to the month it was charged. If you switch to annual billing mid-month, the annual fee will appear on that month's invoice, even though it covers a full year.

Example: If you switch to annual billing on July 15th, the annual fee is charged immediately and will appear on your July invoice (available August 1st).

Where can I find details about my fees?
