What do I need to close my account?

To complete the closure, all of these must be true:

  • Your account is active or still in verification
  • No legal proceedings are ongoing (juridical reorganization, liquidation, deregistration, etc.)
  • Your actual account balance is €0, with no pending transactions (transfer, card payments, check deposits).

If one of these isn't met, your closure is postponed to the last day of the following month, and you're billed for an additional month.

If your account is still in verification, you can close it in the app as long as it holds no funds. If it does hold funds, contact our support team and we'll guide you through the process.

Why can't I close my account if the app shows a balance of €0?

The balance you see in the app can be your available balance, not your actual balance. Your available balance is your actual balance minus pending transactions, such as card payments that haven't settled yet.

For example, if your actual balance is €1,000 and you have two pending card payments of €600 and €400, the app shows an available balance of €0.00. Your actual balance is still €1,000, so you can't close your account yet.

You don't need to do anything: pending card payments settle on their own. Once they have settled and your actual balance is €0, request the closure.

How do I request the closure of my account?

💻 On the web app:

  1. Go to Settings > Billing and invoices.

  2. Click the "Close account" button.

  3. Follow the guidance until you reach the confirmation page.

📱 On the mobile app:

  1. Go to Menu > Settings.
  2. Select the "Close account".

Closing your account on the mobile app is only available on app versions above 20250617.0 (Android) and 20250618.1 (iOS).

If you are still completing the verification of your account, you can close it in the app as long as it has no funds. If there are funds on the account, contact our support, and we'll guide you through the process.

When does my account close, and can I cancel the closure?

Whether you pay monthly or annually, we close your account on the last day of the current month. If you submit your request on the last day of the month, the closure moves to the last day of the following month.

For example:

  • You submit your request on November 10, 2026: your account closes on November 30, 2026.

  • You submit your request on November 30, 2026: your account closes on December 31, 2026.

You can track your closure request and cancel it any time before the closing date.

 💻 On the web app:

  1. Go to Settings > Organization details.

  2. A banner on the Organization details page shows your pending closure.

  3. To cancel it, click on the banner and select "Cancel closure".

📱 On the mobile app:

  1. A banner on the Home screen shows your pending closure.

  2. To cancel it, tap the banner and select "Cancel closure".

Can I reopen my account if it has been closed?

No, a closed account is permanently deactivated and cannot be reactivated in the future. Once an account is closed, all transfers made to it are automatically returned to the sender. Its closure results in the immediate, permanent, and irrevocable deactivation of your IBAN(s), cards, and the inability to receive or send transfers. There's no need to return your payment cards to us.

Does the closure incur any fees?

No, closing your Qonto account is free.

Will I be refunded when I close my account?

It depends on your billing frequency.

If you are billed monthly, you receive a pro-rata refund for the days between your closure date and the end of the month you have already paid, for your plan and your cards. If your closure takes effect on the last day of the month, there are no unused days to refund.

If you are billed annually, you can be refunded for the unused part of your annual plan. We calculate the refund as if you had been billed monthly since the start of your 12-month commitment:

  1. We calculate the cost of the period you used, from the start of your commitment to your closure date, at the price of the same plan billed monthly.
  2. We deduct this amount from the annual fee you paid.
  3. We refund the difference.

If the period you used costs as much as or more than the annual fee you paid, no refund is due.

To request your refund, contact our Customer Support.

Do I still have access to my data after closing my account?

Yes, even if your account is closed, Qonto provides you with unlimited access to retrieve your transaction history and account statements.

How can I hide a closed account in the app?

All accounts, including closed ones, remain visible in the top bar of the app.
If you would like to hide a closed account so that it is no longer displayed, please contact our support team.

Before closing my account, are there any alternatives to consider?

Yes. Adjusting your subscription plan or billing frequency could fit your needs better or reduce your costs.
